Library Reprieve
As featured In our last two newsletters,
Molesey Library was to be one of eleven
Surrey libraries to be closed in March
2012 unless volunteers could be found
to run it.........


On Street Parking
A change of County Policy. David
Hodge, the new ebullient Leader of
Council, on being appointed,
announced that Road Parking Schemes
would now be entirely decided by the
local County Committees. Having fought
charges very hard, this now puts Nigel
Cooper & Ernest Mallet in the driving
seat............
 
Street Lights
Many residents in Molesey will have
observed that the street lights in their
roads are being replaced.
This is part of a Surrey-wide plan to
replace all the street lights in the county.
The new lamps produce a white light,
instead of the yellow light produced by
the old sodium lamps, and are designed
to reduce the amount of upward light
scatter to reduce light pollution...........
 
Cricket Club
Molesey Cricket Club is a very ancient
but extremely active club which needs to
increase its playing facilities to
accommodate the increasing number of
colts' and ladies' teams it runs.
To this end the club approached
Elmbridge Council with a view to using
part of Hurst Meadows (off Graburn
Way) to make another pitch
conveniently close to their existing
ground...........
 
Woolworth's Parade
Woolworth's is no longer there, but you
know where we mean - the main
shopping street in Walton Road, East
Molesey.
In our last newsletter we reported on
the state ofthe planters all the way along
the pavement in front of the parade of
shops..............
 
Phone Mast
A planning application was made for a
58 feet high phone mast at Molesey
Football Club, which is surrounded by
residential housing.
Many local residents objected and the
application was refused.
The phone company then went to
appeal and residents again objected.
As far as we are aware at the time of
writing the.............
 
Meals on Wheels
Did you see any of the 'Hairy Bike~
programmes on television featuring the
Molesey (Day) Centre where the meals
are prepared for the above service to
deliver to elderly or infirm people around
the area?............
 
Magical Molesey
For the fifth successive year this preChristmas
fun day will take place around
the main East Molesey shopping parade
in Walton Road.
Once again there will be fun for the
children, together with carol singing
around the Christmas tree (provided by
Molesey ResidentsAssociation) and, no
doubt, hot mince pies and maybe even
the man himself, Father Christmas.
Magical Molesey will take place on
Thursday 24~ November from 5.30pm.

Goodnews
The appeal against refusal for the
development at the Surveyor pub in
West Molesey, which in our view was a
gross over-development...
 
Bishop Fox Estate
The problem here is that the
developers of the Bishop Fox estate
seem not to have made satisfactory long
tenn arrangements for the maintenance
of the areas of public amenity land and
the recreation ground on the estate.
Cunrently these areas are being looked........
 
Elmbridge Hundred
Part of a plan to commemorate
Elmbridge's most famous residents is a
proposal to erect plaques to four of
Molesey's best known people.
These have been decided as Terence
Cuneo the painter, Fred Karno the
impresario, William Beldham the
famous cricketer and Henry Thompson,
who introduced cremation into this
country...........
 
Molesey Hospital
There is no definite news yet about the
future of Molesey Hospital.
Much depends on the view of the
incoming GP commissioning
consortium.
We understand that they........
 
Secondary Places
The shortage of secondary school
places in recent years has significantly
affected families living in Molesey,
which no longer has its own secondary
school.
The situation has been getting
progressively worse in recent years,
and in each..............
 
Garden Maintenance
The gardens at the West Molesey war
memorial, opposite the police station,
the horse trough in East Molesey and
the container bowls at both war
memorials have been looked after in the
past by Cty. Cllr. Ernest Mallett on behalf
of MRA.
